The Lake District is Englands most hyped region.
Within an area a mere thirty miles across, sixteen major lakes are squeezed between Englands highest mountains, an almost alpine landscape augmented by waterfalls and picturesque villages.
William Wordsworth was not the first to praise the area: Thomas Gray wrote appreciatively of his visit in 1769. Coleridge, Southey, De Quincey and Ruskin also fell in love with the region.
